Thailand’s Ministry of Transport initiated discussions with the World Bank to enhance financial and technical cooperation on key national infrastructure projects. The core focus was the Thailand Resilient Transport Connectivity and Irrawaddy Dolphin Conservation Project (TRIP), which integrates transport development with environmental protection in Songkhla Lake, particularly the conservation of the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. The meeting included updates on loan negotiations and the exploration of strategies to strengthen transport systems in response to climate change.
The ministry also highlighted the need for international support in major connectivity projects, including the Songkhla Lake bridge and the bridge linking Koh Lanta to the mainland. These projects aim to improve regional mobility, reduce congestion on existing routes, and boost local economic and tourism potential. The World Bank expressed interest in assessing the feasibility of financial assistance and providing technical expertise for both initiatives.
This engagement served as a platform for aligning Thailand’s long-term transport policy with global sustainable development goals. By fostering collaboration with the World Bank, Thailand aims to advance infrastructure that is modern, resilient, environmentally responsible, and capable of supporting economic expansion. The cooperation underscores the country’s commitment to balancing development with natural resource conservation for future generations.
