Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin led a delegation to Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, to advance cooperation on environmental management and the preservation of the city’s World Heritage status. The visit included senior ministry officials, who met with the provincial governor and local authorities overseeing culture, tourism, and environmental affairs.
Discussions addressed environmental management in the historic urban area, including waste disposal, wastewater treatment, and pollution control within conservation zones. Both also examined how to balance tourism growth with the protection of cultural and natural value, while enhancing environmental practices at the local level.
The talks also covered plans to expand knowledge and technology transfer in natural resource management, with emphasis being given on community-based approaches. Luang Prabang was identified as a living heritage city, where long-term preservation requires continuous coordination and careful oversight.
Following the meetings, both agreed to develop a joint action plan to share knowledge among officials and improve environmental management. The cooperation is expected to boost ties between Thailand and Laos while supporting international standards and long-term sustainability for World Heritage sites.
