Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has established three national subcommittees to oversee Thailand’s preparations for hosting the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, one of the world’s most significant global economic and financial forums.
The meetings are scheduled to take place from October 12–18, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and are expected to welcome more than 15,000 participants from 189 countries, including finance ministers, central bank governors, investors, private sector leaders, and international media representatives.
The government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said the prime minister described the event as a “financial and fiscal Olympics” that would place Thailand firmly in the international spotlight. Thailand has been selected to host the prestigious meetings for the second time, making it one of only three countries in the world to have hosted the event twice.
The meeting approved the formation of three key subcommittees covering substantive matters, protocol and facilitation, and security, traffic, and public health to ensure preparations are carried out comprehensively and efficiently. Prime Minister Anutin stressed that safety and confidence among international participants would remain a top priority throughout the event.
The official theme for the meetings, “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience,” reflects Thailand’s long-term development vision and aligns with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. Key discussion areas are expected to include digital and AI transformation, global economic and geopolitical shifts, climate change, and demographic transitions.
The government believes the event will help stimulate tourism, investment, and economic activity across multiple sectors, including hospitality, transportation, and local businesses, while also enhancing Thailand’s global image and international economic role.
