The Ministry of Transport announced that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has officially upgraded its rating standards for Thailand’s aviation to Category 1 (CAT1). Previously, in 2015, the country had been downgraded to Category 2. The classification recognizes that Thailand’s aviation meets international safety standards and shows significant improvement in the aviation industry.
With this upgrade, Thai airlines will be able to open new routes and increase flights to the US and other territories that reference the FAA safety ratings, such as South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. This also includes better job opportunities for Thai nationals in overseas airlines, since Thai pilots used to be denied employment because of the country’s FAA CAT2 classification.
The reinstatement of CAT1 status is expected to enhance confidence in Thailand’s aviation safety standards and help the aviation industry drive the economy still further.
