Government holds nationwide events on King Bhumibol’s birthday

Thailand will commemorate the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on 5 December, a day observed as the nation’s National Day and Father’s Day. The government has prepared a comprehensive programme of ceremonies and public activities to honour His Majesty’s enduring legacy of wisdom, compassion, and lifelong dedication to national development.

The commemorative events will begin at 7.00 a.m. with a royal merit-making ceremony at Sanam Luang in Bangkok, presided over by the Prime Minister and his spouse. The ceremony will include Buddhist prayers and an almsgiving ritual, reflecting the deep respect that the Thai people continue to hold for His Majesty the late King.

Similar ceremonies will take place simultaneously at provincial halls across the country, with governors leading the observances in their respective provinces. Thai embassies and consulates abroad will also organise merit-making activities for Thai nationals overseas, ensuring that citizens worldwide are able to participate in paying tribute.

Later in the day, floral tribute ceremonies will be held nationwide in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. The principal ceremony will be organised at the King Rama IX Memorial Park in Bangkok, where senior government officials and representatives from various sectors will lay floral offerings before the King’s monument.

Parallel floral tribute ceremonies will also be conducted in every province, presided over by provincial governors, and at Thai diplomatic missions overseas, led by ambassadors and chiefs of mission. These ceremonies symbolise the profound gratitude felt by the Thai people for His Majesty’s unwavering commitment to the advancement and well-being of the nation.

Throughout the month of December, government agencies will conduct volunteer and public service initiatives dedicated to His Majesty’s memory. These activities reflect the philosophy and values he championed throughout his 70-year reign—service to the community, sustainable development, compassion for others, and the pursuit of the common good.

Projects include community clean-up campaigns, environmental conservation activities, improvements to public infrastructure, and charitable initiatives for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income families. Public volunteers will also be mobilised to support social development programmes inspired by His Majesty’s royal projects and development principles.
