Thailand Leads ASEAN to Conclude Landmark Digital Economy Agreement, Paving Way for Global Digital Hub

Thailand and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic, trade, and investment cooperation following talks between Thai Trade Representative and UK Trade Envoy during the latter’s official visit to Thailand.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Thailand. The discussions focused on advancing cooperation under the Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP), a framework that has already produced tangible progress across 20 key sectors, including product standards, agriculture, food and beverages, digital technology, and environmental cooperation. Thai officials described the ETP as a cornerstone for elevating bilateral relations and expanding commercial opportunities between the two countries.

During the meeting, Thailand invited British investors to expand their presence in the country, particularly in future-oriented industries such as clean energy, advanced technology, semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and aerospace. Thai representatives highlighted the country’s strong infrastructure, investment incentives, and strategic position as a gateway to the ASEAN market.

Thailand also encouraged British businesses to participate in major international trade exhibitions scheduled for 2026, including TILOG Logistix, a leading logistics and supply-chain event, and the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, one of the region’s premier trade showcases. The UK, one of the 38 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), expressed its full support for Thailand’s accession process to the organization. Thai officials view OECD membership as an important step toward improving domestic standards, enhancing competitiveness, and promoting sustainable long-term economic growth.

The United Kingdom was Thailand’s 22nd-largest trading partner globally and fourth-largest in Europe in 2025. Bilateral trade reached US$6.84 billion, with Thailand recording exports of US$4.43 billion and imports of US$2.41 billion.
