PRD Hosts Lanna Soft Power Music Fest to Showcase Lanna Music on the Global Stage

The Regional Public Relations Office 3 of the Public Relations Department (PRD) organized the “Lanna Soft Power Music Fest” in Chiang Mai to promote Thailand’s music soft power through the distinctive cultural identity of the Lanna region. Held at Central Chiang Mai Airport, PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem presided over the opening ceremony, attracting several Thai and international visitors.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General emphasized that music is a powerful form of soft power as it transcends language barriers, connects people, and communicates cultural values across borders. She highlighted Chiang Mai’s rich cultural heritage, particularly its unique Lanna musical traditions, which can be creatively integrated with modern influences to strengthen Thailand’s international cultural presence.

According to Director of the Regional Public Relations Office 3, the initiative supports local artists and emerging talents through creative public engagement as the event was designed to entertain audiences and foster pride in local cultural roots while showcasing the richness of Lanna music to a global audience

Highlights included performances by SL Music, renowned Lanna artist Aom Rattanang, the Red Umbrella Luk Thung Band from Sankampaeng School, and entertainer Kanokchat Munyad-on, whose performance blended contemporary music with Lanna’s distinctive charm and cultural identity.
