Collection of Personal Accident Insurance Fee for Foreigners according to Thailand Medical Hub Guidelines.

For collecting compulsory personal accident insurance fee for foreigners.

For the competitiveness in health service provision, the measures for collecting compulsory personal accident insurance fee for foreigners are as follows.

Develop the Personal Accident Fee system for foreigners traveling to Thailand through legislation requiring the purchase of compulsory personal accident insurance by integrating and collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Department of Consular Affairs, Immigration Office, Office of the Insurance Commission and Private Hospital Association in order to consider the action model and form a protection plan/insurance policy to provide coverage for all foreign tourists entering Thailand through the amendment of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979).

Thai government has promoted the health tourism policy and pushed forward Thailand to become a world-class medical hub by continually developing and improving the potential of health facilities and health establishments at all levels to meet quality standards. As a result of the aforementioned Medical Hub policy, the number of foreigners traveling to Thailand for medical services has increased. In the past, it was found that there were many foreigners did not have sufficient funds for medical expenses because Thailand has not yet established a policy requiring all foreigners to obtain health insurance before entering Thailand. When these tourists get sick and need medical treatment, they have to bear the medical expenses on their own.

Therefore, in order to reduce the burden of the government from the uncollectible medical expenses of foreigners, additional criteria for health insurance for foreigners who apply for “O-A” Non-Immigrant Visa (1-year validity). This initiative will be applied to all senior foreigners who apply for a Long Stay Visa for a period of not more than 1 year which will be covered throughout their stay in the Kingdom of Thai.
