The goals of driving Thailand towards becoming Thailand Medical Hub in combination with developing and expanding into medical tourism are to improve revenue generation, reduce inequality and create sustainable growth in the tourism and service sectors. This is achieved by recognizing the importance of therapeutic science and intangible heritage of “Thai massage” as part of the health care and recovery approaches worldwide.
“Thai massage” is a valuable science that has been passed down from generation to generation and is an important element making Thailand the Wellness Hub. In 2019, Thai massage was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Thai massage is also a profession reserved for Thai people and has a scope applied only in Thailand. However, the government is ready to collaborate with all sectors to drive the enhancement of Thai massage service as a world heritage and culture by raising the standards for the establishments, massage therapists, the massage schools to a higher level in order to provide high-quality “Thai massage” services and to build confidence among foreign tourists as well as creating opportunities, jobs and continuing the art of Thai massage at both the public and community levels.
