Mutelu Community Tourism: Paying Respect to Forest Spirits at Pa La U Community, Prachuap Khiri Khan

     There are only a handful of provinces in Thailand where travelers can experience diverse attractions ranging from mountains, forests, to the sea. Prachuap Khiri Khan is one such pride of community-based tourism, and the variety of this city of the three bays provides abundant joy and happiness to many.

     The Pa La U community, located in Prachuap Khiri Khan, is situated on a complex plain near the mountain range along the Thai-Myanmar border. This community is nestled within one of Thailand's renowned forests and is home to charming and simple lifestyle inhabitants. Despite the diverse ethnicities and religions, the Pga K'nyau people, in particular, lead a simple yet awe-inspiring life. Their faith and belief in the forest and forest and household spirits, and their belief that every natural entity such as water and forest has its own guardian spirit, are fascinating.

     The ritual of paying homage to the Master Forest Spirit and paying respect to forest spirits takes place during the full moon, which is a significant tradition for the Pga K'nyau people.
