Retirement visa documents for foreigners who want to stay in Thailand for 10 years

      After the Cabinet approved the draft announcement of the Ministry of Interior on allowing foreigners with high potential to apply for a 10-year long-term visa, in accordance with the policy to stimulate the economy and investment,  one of the target groups is retirees from abroad. The Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has listed the following documents required for consideration: 

  1. Passport with at least 6 months validity;

  2. Three copies of visa application form (with photos size 4x6 cm taken within the last 6 months);

  3. One personal history form;

  4. Proof of finance  (Choose one): 
    (a) Certificate of deposit with bank contact information, copy of passbook, and bank statement  showing fixed deposit with the amount of not less than 3 million baht in a Thai commercial bank account located in Thailand;
    (b) Certificate of deposit with bank contact information, copy of passbook, and bank statement documents  showing fixed deposits in the amount of not less than 1.8 million baht in a Thai commercial bank account located in Thailand, and a certificate of annual income not less than 1.2 million baht. After entering Thailand, they must have a deposit in a Thai commercial bank account located in Thailand of not less than 3 million baht within a period of one year.

  5. Documents or evidence certifying behavior based on website content information on thailand.go.th, Thailand’s central website data center establishment project, or a criminal record certificate from the country where the foreigner has nationality. If the foreigner has a permanent residence in another country, such documents are also required from the country in which the foreigner has a permanent residence;

  6. A medical certificate from the country where the petition was filed showing that there are no serious, prohibited diseases according to the Ministerial Regulation No. 14, 1992, such as leprosy, dangerous tuberculosis, elephantiasis, narcotic disease  and stage 3 syphilis. However, the medical certificate must not be older than 3 months;

  7. Copy of proof of insurance and a Thai health insurance policy with the sum insured for nursing expenses in the case of outpatients of not less than 40,000 baht and in the case of inpatients of not less than 400,000 baht.

  8. For a lawful spouse (no age limit) with nationality and holding a passport from the 14 countries listed in the note below, the petitioner must provide evidence of a marriage certificate to accompany the petition of both the petitioner and his spouse and must prepare the above documents;

  9. For legitimate children under the age of 20 (up to the adopted child), the petitioner must present a copy of the birth certificate or child certificate and must prepare documents according to items 1-3 and 7. 

Note: The 14 countries where 10-year retirement visas are permitted are the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, the United States, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
