“Kaeng Kuet” is located in Moo 1, Kuet Chang Subdistrict, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. It is one of the most popular water attractions that Chiang Mai people and tourists come to cool down especially in the summer like this because it is a famous whitewater rafting activity with an easy level of difficulty from level 2 to level 5. Many stages are rapids, waterfalls, low rapids, curved cliff rapids, varying depending on the level, totaling more than 14 rapids. The Mae Taeng River rafting, a distance of 10 kilometers, from Ban Sop Kai to Ban Muang Kuet, which takes about two to two and a half hours. The rafting can be divided as follows:
First Period From Ban Sop Kai to Pang Island, the distance is about 5 kilometers, with difficulty level 2-3. This is a time of fun and high safety, suitable for getting used to together in steering the boat through various islands. There are about 6 big rapids that are exciting but not dangerous.
Second Period From Pang Koh to Ban Huai Masang, the distance is about 2 kilometers, with difficulty level 4-5. This is the most difficult period of this river consisting of about 7 to 8 large rapids. It is a period that demands maximum teamwork and demands tourists who are physically and mentally ready.
Last Period From Ban Huai Masang to Ban Mueang Keed, the distance is about 4 kilometers, with difficulty level 3-4. This is when most of the rafting companies in Chiang Mai use it. There are about 6 big rapids that are exciting, especially the most fun part, which is 3 big rapids connected together, total length of 500 meters, which creates a lot of excitement for tourists.
In addition, the Kaeng Kuet is surrounded by gorgeous scenery, which attracts a lot of visitors—especially in the summer—because it’s a great place to unwind and enjoy some chilly water sports. As for the rainy season, the current is quite strong, this time is the best time for rafting.
Travelling
From the city of Chiang Mai, there are two ways as follows.
- Take Highway No. 107 (Chiang Mai - Fang), turn left into the fork to Pai District (Route No. 1095) at Mae Malai Fresh Market T-junction, Mae Taeng District. Drive straight for about 4 kilometers or take the Ban Mae Malai bypass route by turning left at the Bangchak gas station intersection to Pai District (also route No. 1095). Then, turn right into the intersection into Ban Pang Mai Daeng - Ban Muang Kuet, Moo 1, Kuet Chang Sub-district, Mae Taeng District, a distance of about 20 kilometers, you will arrive at the Mae Taeng Elephant Tour office.
