Procedures and documents for obtaining a student visa

Foreigners who want to come to observe work, train, or study in Thailand can apply for a student visa (education visa, or ED visa) by preparing the following documents:

1. TM.7 (application for permission to stay in the Kingdom temporarily); 

2. One photo size 4X6 cm;

3. Passport valid for not less than six months, with a copy;

4. Student card (if a researcher, please attach a researcher card), registration form for the current semester, and the latest registration fee receipt (only in the case of full-time study), with a copy;

5. Confirmation letter and request to stay from that educational institution, showing details about the number of academic years, course level, and academic results issued by the educational institution;

6. Letter of introduction in Thai (to the Ministry of Education) to apply for a visa extension, from the student accepting agency/ student issuing documents;

7. Certificate from a government agency at the department level or equivalent or from the provincial governor in charge of the institution (except in the case of studying in international schools or in higher education);

8. A copy of the curriculum and class schedule (only in the case of non-formal schools);

9. A copy of evidence of permission to establish an educational institution from relevant government agencies, follows: 

  • Evidence of the institution's registration, certified by the registrar, not older than six months, together with a copy;
  • Educational institution license or business registration list of shareholders and history of the educational institution, with a copy;
  • A copy of a map of the educational institution.

10. In the event that a student is the dependent of a parent or is an international student under the age of 20 and enrolled in a long-term course, the parent or parents may obtain a Non-immigrant O visa, single-entry type, to follow the child (the course may not be a short-term training course such language learning, Muay Thai, diving, and the like). However, the consideration is at the discretion of the Immigration Office staff.
