It often happens that foreign workers who come to work in Thailand, or persons who are looking for a place to work, would like to naturalize in Thailand and become citizens. It is possible for foreigners who come to work here to be able to naturalize, according to the Nationality Act 1965 and as amended in Section 10. There are several requirements:

1. They must have reached the age of majority under Thai law and the law of the country where the person has nationality;

2. They must have had a domicile in Thailand for at least five consecutive years from the date of receiving a residence certificate or foreign worker certificate or civil registration evidence;

3. They must pass a criminal background check (fingerprints will be taken for verification);

4. They must have an honest occupation with a certificate of employment from the Office of Foreign Workers Administration or the Provincial Employment Office. In case there is no connection with Thailand, the income must not be less than 80,000 baht per month. In the case of having a relationship with Thailand, such as marrying a person of Thai nationality or having a child with a person of Thai nationality or graduating from an institution of higher education in Thailand, they must earn at least 40,000 baht per month and have proof of tax payment for at least three years;

5. They must have knowledge of the Thai language, i.e., be able to speak and understand the Thai language.

Evidence for applying for Thai nationality naturalization includes the following: 

1. Identification card;

2. Occupation certificate from the Foreign Workers Administration Office or the Provincial Employment Office;

3. Evidence of occupation;

4. In the case of a child, a copy of the birth certificate or birth certificate is required;

5. Foreign worker identification card or civil registration evidence (Thor.Ror.14);

6. Educational evidence (if any).
