Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) with Work Promotion Project

     Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) is a concept of experiential education based on competencies-based education, in which students in higher education can study at the same time as they work in an actual workplace. In this way, they will  gain work competency, and will be ready to work in the real world immediately after graduation (“Ready to Work”). It involves collaboration between higher education institutions, manufacturing departments, and organizations that need more workforce (University-Workplace Engagement).

Four Goals Driving CWIE

  1. Promote the production of potential future personnel who have the competencies that are consistent with the needs of the job market and national development (Demand-Driven Workforce);
  2. Respond to the policies and laws related to developing the country's workforce;
  3. Enhance CWIE quality standard;
  4. Create ​​jobs and career development for CWIE platform students​.

     The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation has been given approval from the four principal “actors”: higher education institutes, public sector/ private sector, industrial sector, and local communities. There are five main procedures:

  1. Information;
  2. Matching;
  3. Co-designing and implementation;
  4. Assessment and development;
  5. Outreach activities.

The Goal of Promoting Cooperative Education and Integrative Education with Work

Quantitative Goals

By doubling the number of students attending CWIE in five years, the number of students is expected to increase from 102,510 to 205,020 by the end of 2024.

  1. Year 1 (2020) increased by 10% to 10,251 people;
  2. Year 2 (2021) increased by 20% to 20,502 people;
  3. Year 3 (2022) increased by 50% to 51,255 people;
  4. Year 4 (2023) increased by 75% to 76,882 people;
  5. Year 5 (2024) increased by 100% to 102,510 people.

Qualitative Goals                                                                                            

Students who participate in CWIE will have competencies and characteristics needed to make them employable and will have skills that meet the needs of the establishment and job market. As a result, they continuously develop in career and professional advancement and have the potential to become entrepreneurs for global mobility.
