International admiration for Thailand’s success in coping with COVID-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) has commended Thailand for its effective management of the COVID-19 epidemic, and plans to use Thailand’s model and management system to set an international standard for managing the global epidemic situation.

Thailand’s success in managing COVID-19 also includes the vaccination of more than 70% of the population. It was able to vaccinate 81.4% of the people with the first dose, followed by the second dose for 75.3% of the country’s entire population. Furthermore, Thailand has consistently participated in various WHO development projects, such as the WHO Biohub project, which is a storage facility for infection research and sharing that serves as an important foundation for the development and research of vaccines for the prevention of various emerging diseases.

Thailand has been designated as the lead country for conducting public health and universal health emergency preparedness reviews in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, Thailand is recognized as having successfully managed the COVID-19 public health emergency response.

Furthermore, Johns Hopkins University, in the United States, ranked Thailand fifth out of 195 countries with health security strengths, as measured by the performance of countries with good health systems. COVID-19 morbidity and mortality rates were lower than the global average. The Department of Disease Control is a public health agency whose primary mission is to combat the spread of COVID-19, and it has been working in emergency situations, where the situation is constantly changing, for more than three years.
