Foreign Tourists Eligible for VAT Refund

Foreign Tourists Eligible for VAT Refund

Foreign tourists, without Thai citizenship, no residence in Thailand, who are not aircrew or ship crew members, and departing from an international airport in Thailand, are eligible to request a refund of Value-Added Tax (VAT). This requires purchasing goods from stores displaying the “VAT REFUND FOR TOURISTS” sign. The value of goods purchased must not be less than 2,000 baht (inclusive of VAT), from the same store, on the same day. These goods must be taken out of the Kingdom of Thailand within 60 days, counting from the date of purchase.

On the day of departure, before checking in, tourists are required to present their goods and the VAT Refund Application for Tourists (Form P.P. 10) with a total purchase value of 5,000 baht or more, for customs officers to inspect and stamp.

For high-value items such as gems, gold ornaments, watches, glasses, pens, mobile phones or smartphones, laptops, handbags (excluding travel bags), and belts, each with a value from 10,000 baht or goods that can be carried along with travel with a value per item from 50,000 baht, must be presented again to the customs officers at the VAT Refund Office, located in the departure passenger area after passing through immigration.
