Every border region has lively trading interactions, fostering the growth of vibrant border markets. These markets have become well-known and are increasingly popular tourist destinations. Some of these must-visit locations include:

     Mae Sai Market, located in Wiang Phang Kham sub-district of Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai province, is the northernmost point of Thailand. It is a well-known border market that many are familiar with due to its long-standing reputation. Situated right on the border, the market attracts a regular mix of people from Myanmar and various hill tribes who come to trade in consumer goods.

     The Rim Moei Market in Mae Sot of Tak province, is a bustling trading center for Thai and Burmese local products such as dried bamboo shoots, dried fish, fragrant mushrooms, beans, leather goods, satin fabrics, and more. Moreover, it has gained a reputation as a gem market, particularly famous for its colored stones from Myanmar. Handmade wooden products are also available.

     The Rong Kluea Market is an East Thailand border market that is the largest of its kind, located in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo province. It comprises five sub-markets and is a prominent shopping hub for retail and wholesale, including second-hand products. The market is renowned for its wide range of products from all over the world at affordable prices and good quality.

     The Chong Mek Customs House is a popular tourist spot in the lower northeastern region, situated in Sirindhorn, Ubon Ratchathani province. Besides being a major border crossing point for travel to Laos, it also offers a variety of consumer goods for tourists to browse and shop. Nearby attractions include those offering merit making activities, such as the “Green Aura” Kalpapruek tree and Wat Sirindhorn Wararam which has various pieces of Buddhist arts.

     Betong Border Pass, located in Betong in Yala province, stands opposite the state of Perak in Malaysia. It is an essential gateway for tourists wishing to experience a city nestled in a basin surrounded by mountains. The beautiful natural environment, cool and pleasant climate, and the simple lifestyle of the people here make it a unique destination. The area is also well-known for its delicious local food.
