Instructions for outbound passengers – Customs screening

      Outbound passengers who wish to travel abroad via airlines are required to undergo screening for items that are prohibited by law from being taken out of the Kingdom of Thailand; otherwise they will be prosecuted and the items will be confiscated. Precautions are as follows: 

• Outbound passengers may only take out a maximum of 50,000 Thai baht;
• Certain items exported out of the Kingdom require a written permission from the relevant public agency, which must be presented at the time of customs clearance;
• Passengers should not buy ivory or ivory products, as elephants are an endangered species and listed on CITES 1. They cannot be imported or exported for commercial purposes, but only for scientific research and breeding purposes. The offender is liable to a fine of four times the total price of the duty or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or to both.
