What documents are required for registering marriage with a foreign national under Thai law?

Registering a marriage with a foreign national in Thailand is an important step in securing the stability of a family. It is also one of the ways the Thai government supports efforts to attract foreign investment and promote economic relations between countries.

Documents required for registering a marriage with a foreign national:

For Thai nationals :

1. Thai ID card or passport

2. Two witnesses (one from each side)

For foreign nationals :

1. Certificate of single status issued by their home country

2. Passport

3. Consent from parents (if either party is under 20 years old)

4. Two witnesses (one from each side)

In case of registering marriage at a district office in Thailand:

- Certificate of single status issued by the home country: This must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the home country and the Thai Embassy or Consulate General in that country, then translated into Thai and certified by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

- Certificate of single status issued by a foreign embassy or consulate in Thailand: This must be translated into Thai and certified by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

In case of registering marriage at a Thai Embassy or Consulate General abroad:

- Certificate of single status issued by the home country: This must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the home country and submitted for marriage registration with a Thai national at the Thai Embassy or Consulate General in that country.

Marrying a foreign national not only creates a family but also opens up the opportunity for foreign nationals who are investors to reside legally in Thailand. Additionally, it can promote economic relations between countries, which aligns with the government's policy to attract foreign investment for economic stability, especially in the areas of finance, investment, and technological development in Thailand.
