Timeless Thai Elegance Meets Contemporary Design on the Global Stage

On 29 June 2026, Her Majesty Queen Suthida wore a contemporary interpretation of the Thai Amarin dress (Chud Thai Amarin) during the official welcome ceremony held at the Hôtel des Invalides in the French Republic, as part of the State Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand to France.

The ensemble preserved the distinctive identity of the traditional Thai Amarin dress while incorporating refined contemporary elements. These included a rounded stand collar, a front opening with ten aligned buttons instead of the traditional overlapping closure, a softly curved front hem, and a harmonious arrangement of woven silk motifs extending across the lower part of the skirt and continuing seamlessly over the shoulders and sleeves.

Her Majesty completed the ensemble with a square-shaped Yan Lipao handbag, an exceptional example of Thailand’s master craftsmanship. Handwoven from finely selected Lipao vine, the bag features a smooth, lustrous finish and a sterling silver square handle elegantly adorned with dark tourmaline gemstones.

The handbag was created by Sama-ae Kotao, a member of the SUPPORT Arts and Crafts Centre from Narathiwat Province, who continues the traditional craftsmanship of Lipao weaving. His meticulous artistry beautifully combines Thailand’s rich cultural heritage with contemporary design.

Together with Her Majesty’s carefully selected attire, the ensemble showcased the enduring value of Thai arts and crafts, reflecting the successful preservation and evolution of Thailand’s artisanal traditions while introducing the beauty of Thai craftsmanship to the international community.
