Thai Government establishes SHIELD system to combat transnational crime

The Thai government has strengthen its crackdown on transnational crimes by integrating the SCAM and Human Trafficking Information Exchange and Linked Database (SHIELD) within the Royal Thai Police international database to enhance public and tourist safety nationwide. The goal is to eradicate telecommunications fraud, human trafficking, and online syndicates located at Thai border areas.

The SHIELD platform aims to facilitate international cooperation by linking criminal data, forensic evidence, and cross-border financial trails. speeds up the tracking and prosecution of offenders, closing loopholes previously exploited by criminal networks. Concurrently, the government is deploying AI through the Intelligent Bird Eye Operation Center (IBOC) to reinforce surveillance in major economic and tourism zones. This technology enables rapid anomaly detection and immediate incident response.

Authorities plan to pilot SHIELD smart safety model on Koh Samet, which receives over 1 million visitors annually, before expanding it to other critical areas nationwide. By utilizing SHIELD for international data sharing and the IBOC system for localized incident prevention, the government strives to protect the public, minimize financial damages, and bolster confidence among international travelers visiting Thailand.
