Many foreigners entering Thailand, particularly for long-term stays, may wish to sponsor or be sponsored by a person having residency in Thailand. It is necessary to apply for a change of visa type for foreigner – for providing support to or being a dependent of a person having residency in Thailand (Non-O). The applicant must submit and prepare the documents as follows:
In case the applicant’s family has a foreigner with a permit to reside in Thailand, the residency certificate, foreigner registration certificate, work permit, copy of passport, and house registration are required.
1. Evidence proving the applicant is married, father, mother or children or birth certificate or 2. A letter from a government office, embassy or consulate certifying that the applicant is a member of the referred family; a letter of guarantee from the Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents under 7 and 8 must be translated into English and certified by local or overseas Embassy or Consulate of the foreigner and by the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand (For more information, please call +66 2575 1058 ext. 60 or call center +66 2572 8442).
Documents shall be submitted more than 15 days before visa expiration in support of the application for visa or visa status alteration for 90 days. In case of overstaying, a foreigner is not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa.
Things you should know:
1. Both the applicants and a resident of Thailand must come together and make the application themselves every time.
2. Applicants who come in contact must have a residential notification with evidence of a residential notification.
3. The applicants must sign and certify every page of the document.
4. Documents of government agencies to be certified by authorized signatory
5. If the dependent person is father or mother, he/she must be over 50 years of age. If the dependent person is a child, he/she must not be married and reside as a member of the referred family and must not be over 20 years of age.
