Thai Textiles and Contemporary Fashion Highlighted in Udon Thani

Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office Supamas Isarabhakdi presided over the opening of an exhibition and academic seminar on cultural capital and fashion in Udon Thani province, where Thai textiles and contemporary fashion took center stage. Among those attending were Public Relations Department (PRD) Director-General Sudruethai Lertkasem, Udon Thani Deputy Governor Nattapong Khamwongpin, and National Artist Meechai Taesujariya.

Organized by the PRD at Central Udon, the event today (June 19) serves as a platform for learning and showcasing contemporary Thai textiles created by model communities, introducing Thai identity to younger consumers and international audiences.

Minister Supamas said Thai textiles are cultural assets and repositories of traditional wisdom with economic potential, and that blending local craftsmanship with contemporary design can create jobs, generate income for communities, and enhance Thailand's image abroad.

The event also pays tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother for her role in preserving and developing Thai textiles and handicrafts, as well as to Her Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya for promoting Thai textiles and fashion. It also honors the memory of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajita for her dedication to preserving and promoting Thai textiles.

The three-day event features more than 100 products from 10 model communities nationwide, academic seminars on Thai textiles and contemporary fashion, and the fashion show The Walk of Woven Identities: A Runway of Interwoven Identities. The exhibition runs until June 21 at UDON HALL, with a concluding exhibition scheduled for August 11-13 at ICONSIAM in Bangkok.
