"Nong Hiang Chon Buri Jackfruit" registered as a Thai Geographical Indication Product, boosting revenue to the province

     "Nong Hiang Chon Buri Jackfruit" has been registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) product by the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce. It is a renowned local fruit of Chon Buri province and possesses a unique identity.

     There are various varieties of the Nong Hiang Chon Buri Jackfruit, namely Thong Prasert, Malay, Petch Racha, Dang Suriya, and Thong Som. These varieties are grown and produced in the Phanat Nikhom District of Chon Buri province. The fruit is characterized by its large size, thin peel, few fibers, large bulbs, thick, dry, and crispy flesh. The flesh color ranges from golden yellow, dark yellow, yellowish-orange to reddish-orange, and it has a balanced sweet taste with a mild aroma.

     The GI registration of "Nong Hiang Chon Buri Jackfruit" will help promote its recognition, increasing the income for farmers and local communities growing jackfruit to over 850 million baht per year. It also supports exportation to foreign markets, such as China and Vietnam, valued at approximately 106 million baht per year, thereby stimulating grassroots economic growth.

     Currently, the Department of Intellectual Property has registered Thai GI products covering every province nationwide, amounting to a total of 185 products.

     The benefits of GI registration include the protection of unique local community products in their respective production areas, enhancing product value, promoting quality control systems to create consumer confidence, and continually expanding marketing channels.
