Sustainable tourism promotes economic development in the tourism sector while considering resource security and local people’s livelihoods. Currently, many organizations are collaborating to form working partnerships under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s criteria for creating sustainable tourism (Global Sustainable Tourism Council). One of its primary functions is to increase positive cultural impacts while decreasing negative cultural impacts.
Culture is what has been passed down from generation to generation in a place, whether large or small, becoming an essential force in the development of the group’s way of life. As a result, being able to create or preserve sustainability in terms of culture is a guideline for sustainable tourism under the GSTC criteria; the goal is to have local communities that can be near a tourist attraction, or even be part of the attraction, while still leading a normal life.
Guidelines have been developed to monitor, protect, and, if necessary, restore or create access to allow local communities to access natural and cultural attractions again by establishing the following indicators:
