Seven exciting destinations to visit this rainy season - Kuet River, Chiang Mai

Looking for some wet and wild fun during the rainy season in Chiang Mai? Well, you definitely should check out the Kuet River! The rainy season brings with it an extra layer of excitement, and the Kuet River is right here waiting for you. This place is one of the most popular water destinations in Chiang Mai because of its famous activity: rubber boat rafting. You can find it at Kuet Chang sub-district of Mae Tang district in Chiang Mai. The rapids range from level 2 to level 5, with some areas featuring waterfalls, reduced level rapids, or curving rapids in front of cliffs, each varying according to the level. In total, there are over 14 rapids and the whole rafting experience will take you about 2 and a half hours.

Surrounded by the beautiful nature, the Kuet River attracts tourists all year round. But in the hot season, you'll see more people coming for a chill and relaxing time in the water. On the other hand, the rainy season brings strong currents, making it the best time for some thrilling rafting experience.

But the fun doesn't stop at rubber boat rafting. You can enjoy other activities like elephant riding, feeding elephants, riding on a mock bullock cart at Maetaman or Mae Tang elephant camps, biking, trekking, bamboo rafting, or staying at a nearby homestay. It's truly a family-friendly destination that promises a full-on monsoon adventure.

To get there from downtown Chiang Mai, take Highway No. 107 and drive past Mae Tang district office. After approximately 4 kilometers, turn left onto the intersection leading Ban Maetaman and Ban Mueang Kuet, which are located in the same direction as Maetaman and Mae Tang elephant camps. Continue driving, and you'll reach Ban Mueang Kuet.

For parking at the Kuet River, it's 50 baht for cars and 10 baht for motorcycles. Inside the Kuet River area, you'll find a line of restaurants and beverage shops along the river. Just a bit further, there's a spacious parking area that can accommodate 250-300 cars. And if you haven't found your favorite restaurant or the perfect spot to get in the water, just keep going, as there are many more eateries and swimming spots all along the riverbank.
