Hok Peng Festival to Worship Phra That Chao Phu Phiang Chae Haeng will be held between 28 February – 6 March at Phra That Chae Haeng Phra Royal Temple, Phu Phiang District, Nan Province. Phra That Chae Haeng is an invaluable Phra That of Nan people. It is assumed to be about 600 years old. It was built in 1891under the order by Phaya Kan Mueang to contain the Buddha’s relics taken from Sukhothai. This Phra That is 55.5 meters high, located on a square base, 22.5 meters wide on each side and completely coated with brass. Every year, a ceremony to worship Phra That Chae Haeng will be held between 11th - 15th waxing moon of the 6th lunar month, which will be around the end of February or the beginning of March each year.

This tradition has been inherited for a long time by the people of Nan, showing the local culture and traditions representing faith in Buddhism. It also promotes the tourism of Nan Province. In the ceremony, a procession is arranged to bring Nam Thip (nectar) to sprinkle onto the relics and Pha Thip (cloth) to cover the relics along with offering food to the monks. In addition, tourists will also experience Phu Phiang local way of life, watch local art and culture performances, Long Nan dance, worship drum beating, Aew drum beating, fireworks competition and demonstrations of local wisdom products, Nan’s famous products, etc. The visitors can also participate in making prayers, practicing Dharma for good fortune, promoting and preserving culture and traditions and continuing the Buddhism.
