A rare phenomenon of Leopard jellyfish in Bang Riang Canal

    It is not often that we see Leopard jellyfish appearing en masse in Bang Riang Canal, Bang Riang Subdistrict, Khuan Niang District, Songkhla Province, after disappearing for 3 years. This natural phenomenon has once again opened the travel season to canoe and observe Leopard jellyfish in Bang Riang Canal. In addition to observing Leopard jellyfish, visitors can also experience the way of life of the locals living along both sides of the canal.

     Normally, Leopard jellyfish live in the sea, not in natural canals. However, they entered this canal due to salt water flowing into it, allowing the squid to inhabit it for a period of time. They usually come in large groups, swimming in the canal where they can be clearly seen from the water surface. It's a rare natural phenomenon because it's impossible to precisely predict when the squid will come. It depends on the water conditions, but generally, it occurs around April to July, depending on the weather each year.

     For tourists wishing to observe the Leopard jellyfish, they can rent a kayak at restaurants or resorts offering services along Bang Riang Canal in the Southern province of Songkhla. The boat rental fee is 50 baht per hour.
