Funding for medical device innovations through BCG

With regard to funding the development of medical device innovations to support the BCG model, in accordance with the medical device research situation in the country, there are already several organizations conducting medical device research, namely the National Science and Technology Development Agency, in the Ministry of Public Health, various educational institutions, Local Administrative Organizations (LAO), military pharmaceutical factory, and parties in the private sector, with several agencies responsible for linking research results.

However, when considering the budget allocation for medical device research, it was found that, in the government budgets for research and development of health and medical technology and innovation, about 8% of the budget is allocated for science, research and innovation. In the fiscal year 2020, most of the budget was allocated for research in small projects and for upstream research at the Health Systems Research Institute, as a research fund allocation unit.

In addition, the highest proportion of science and technology budget allocation, 64%, is included in the medical device development budget, which focuses on downstream research with technological readiness level (TRL) 5 or higher, and it must meet the needs of the industry, with the cooperation of the industry in the implementation of the project.
