The most prominent “ghost festival” in Thailand, Boonluang Tradition and Phi Ta Khon, Dan Sai District, 2023, will be held from 23 to 25 June 2023 at Phra Kaew Asa Road, Dan Lei District, and Wat Phon Chai, Loei Province. It is another traditional festival that cultural tourists should take advantage of.
Visitors and citizens will be able to watch the Ta Khon Ghost Procession, the International Mask Show, the Ta Khon Ghost Mask Contest, the Ta Khon Noi Ghost Contest, and a variety of community performances, and they can take advantage of offers in government and private shops, the clean and delicious food events, local cultural art shows, indigenous product shows, and OTOP merchandise and products. They can also enjoy music performances from popular artists and listen to 13 epic sermons in the Buddhist tradition.
As for the Boon Luang and Ta Khon, phantom plays are a unique tradition in the Dan Sai District. The festival is held after the 15th day of the sixth month every year, from the end of June to the beginning of July. It is believed to be the primary worship event of the city and a sacred spirit ceremony.
