Tax payment for foreigners with Long-Term Resident Visa

Thailand has adjusted the criteria and conditions for holders of a Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR) or 10-year long-term visas for four groups of, high-potential foreigners, namely high-net-worth individuals, foreign retirees, foreigners wishing to work from Thailand, and specialists and their dependents, such as a spouse and legal children under the age of 20, not more than four persons.

Foreigners and their dependents are required to pay a one-time visa fee at the rate of 50,000 baht (previously 100,000 baht) and may apply for a work permit under the law on Management of Employment of Foreign Workers.

With regard to foreigners holding a Long-Term Resident Visa (in the categories of high-net-worth individuals, foreign retirees, and foreigners wishing to work from Thailand), any assessable income due to work or business performed abroad or due to assets located abroad is exempted from tax under Royal Decree No. 743, dated 23 May 2022.

Foreigners belonging to the highly skilled group will receive a personal income tax rate reduction of 17%.
