If foreign workers want to work in Thailand without being deceived by an employer or a criminal, what can they do?

Criminals that trick foreign workers into working in Thailand illegally come in many forms. These foreign workers, in addition to having to pay money to crooks who import illegal labor at high prices, are very likely to be enslaved as slave labor, or to receive low wages or no wages at all, or to become victims of human trafficking. If caught by the authorities, they will be deported.

Fortunately, there is a system for bringing foreign workers to work in Thailand legally. According to the MOU system between countries, employers may contact to request action themselves , or they can use the service of companies bringing in foreign workers to work legally. There are currently 250 such companies that are licensed by the Department of Employment, 75 of which are located in Bangkok and 175 in the provinces The list of these companies can be found at www.doe.go.th.  Persons who fraudulently take money from foreign workers, claiming that they can work in the country with a permit, are liable to imprisonment for 3-10 years or a fine from  600,000-1,000,000 baht per foreigner, or both. Complaints can be reported at  Ministry of Labour hotline 1506 press 2.
