Thailand Steps Up Airport Screening Measures for Passengers from West Bengal, India

On 25 January 2026, Thailand’s international disease control checkpoints at Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport began implementing health screening measures for passengers arriving from West Bengal, India, following reports of a Nipah virus outbreak in the area. The screening operations have been carried out smoothly, with good cooperation from arriving passengers, the Airports of Thailand (AOT), immigration authorities, and relevant agencies.

On the same day, Phuket International Airport enhanced its preparedness and disease screening measures for Nipah virus infection, as West Bengal remains under continuous health surveillance. The airport has integrated operations with the International Communicable Disease Control Checkpoint, proactively setting up screening points for passengers arriving from the affected area to closely monitor and prevent the potential spread of the disease.

Currently, Phuket International Airport operates direct flights from the affected area via one airline, with five flights per week. To ensure effective operations, the airport has strengthened public health measures within the passenger terminal, including increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfection of common areas and high-touch surfaces, as well as maintaining close coordination with the International Communicable Disease Control Checkpoint to ensure safety and build confidence among passengers and airport personnel.
