Thai hit film "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies gets closer" to Oscars

The blockbuster "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" (or Lahn Mah) from Thailand has been selected in the shortlist for the 97th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, in the best international feature film category. This year, there were 85 submissions globally.

The shortlist of 15 films, listed in alphabetical order by country, is as follows:
     - Brazil, I’m Still Here;
     - Canada, Universal Language;
     - Czech Republic, Waves;
     - Denmark, The Girl With the Needle;
     - France, Emilia Pérez;
     - Germany, The Seed of the Sacred Fig;
     - Iceland, Touch;
     - Ireland, Kneecap;
     - Italy, Vermiglio;
     - Latvia, Flow;
     - Norway, Armand;
     - Palestine, From Ground Zero;
     - Senegal, Dahomey;
     - Thailand, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies;
     - United Kingdom, Santosh.

Thailand has submitted films for the Academy Awards since 1984, but this is the first time that the country has passed through this far. Nominations will be announced on 17 January 2025 and the winners of the 2025 Academy Awards will be unveiled on 3 March in the live international television broadcast. 

"How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" was released in Thailand in April 2024, by GDH. It has grossed an estimated US$56 million worldwide. It received praise from critics for its direction, screenplay, acting performances, music, and heavy emotional weight, combining drama and comedy in the plot. The film tells the story of a young man who quits his job to look after his dying grandmother. However, it is not out of love that he assumes the role of a devoted grandson but for a substantial inheritance worth millions of baht, going to great lengths to become the apple of his demanding grandmother’s eye before time runs out.
