Nan Flood Levels Recedes as Power Restoration and Relief Accelerate

Floodwaters across northern Thailand are finally beginning to pull back, but the ground remains treacherous as emergency teams push deep into recovery mode.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yodchanan Wongsawat outlined the updated operational strategy for tomorrow, reporting an overall drop in regional water levels while keeping close watch over Wiang Sa district. Because continuous rainfall persisted in Chalermprakiat district during the evening, authorities triggered emergency Cell Broadcast alerts to warn nearby residents of potential mudslides.

Nan Governor Chainarong Wongyai confirmed that by 9:00 PM, northern monitoring stations recorded water levels dropping comfortably below the critical 85-centimetre mark. Even so, pockets of Nan municipality remain submerged as backflow pushes up through drainage pipes and breaches unreinforced embankments. In response, municipal crews are operating 3 heavy-duty pumps continuously to speed up drainage as external river levels fall.

Meanwhile, recovery teams are pre-positioning heavy machinery in Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts for full deployment on Friday, alongside targeted aid deliveries for heavily inundated families in Phu Phiang, Wiang Sa, and the capital district. Provincial Electricity Authority crews have already restored power to over 45,000 homes, working to reconnect the remaining 4,000 households as floodwaters recede. Displaced residents needing urgent food or relief can reach the 24-hour joint information centre hotline at 054-716-174.
