Thailand Rolls Out Major Safety and Convenience Measures for Songkran Travelers
This Songkran, Thailand is not just celebrating with water festivities, it’s prioritizing safe and smooth travel for all. The government and relevant agencies have launched three key initiatives to ensure both tourists and locals can journey with confidence.
1️⃣ Special Routes Added, Traffic Congestion Eased
The Department of Highways is opening alternative routes to help drivers avoid traffic jams. Free vehicle inspection points are also set up nationwide, aiming to reduce accident risks caused by vehicle issues.
2️⃣ Strict Drunk Driving Checks at High-Risk Spots
Highway police are increasing patrols on all major routes, with extra focus on accident-prone areas. Officers will enforce strict drunk driving laws to prevent serious accidents.
3️⃣ Promoting Public Transport for a Safer Journey
Authorities are encouraging the use of trains, buses, and shared transport options to cut down on private car use. This helps save travel time and reduces pollution.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed gratitude to all officials working through the holiday and emphasized the need to widely share information on routes and safety measures, so travelers can plan their trips smoothly.
“This Songkran, Thailand wants everyone to return home safely and take away wonderful memories from this special festival.”
