On March 14, 2025, at 5:34 PM, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen presided over the seasonal robe-changing ceremony for the Emerald Buddha at the Ubosot of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, commonly known as Wat Phra Kaew, located within the Grand Palace.
This sacred ritual involves changing the robes of “Phra Buddha Maha Mani Rattana Patimakorn,” or the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's revered national treasure and symbol of faith. The robes are changed three times a year to reflect Thailand’s seasonal transitions:
Each robe is intricately crafted from pure gold and adorned with precious gemstones, showcasing exceptional Thai craftsmanship and deep devotion to Buddhism. His Majesty personally performs the robe-changing ritual by ascending to the pedestal where the Emerald Buddha is enshrined. He removes the previous robe, cleanses the statue with perfumed water, and dresses it in its seasonal attire. For summer, this includes a golden crown. The ceremony concludes with offerings, incense lighting, candle lighting, and a Brahmin-led blessing ritual at the base of the Buddha’s throne—a solemn act reflecting profound reverence and royal faith.
After completing the ceremony inside the Ubosot, Their Majesties extended blessings to officials and citizens gathered to witness the event by sprinkling holy water used to cleanse the Emerald Buddha. This act symbolizes bestowing prosperity and auspiciousness upon the nation.
