Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs attends ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Interface Meeting with the AICHR
H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Interface Meeting with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) during the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Ministerial Meetings.
The Meeting took note of AICHR’s work over the past year, including its engagement with civil society, external partners, and other stakeholders. The Vice Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s support for AICHR’s work on human rights and the environment, including the development of a Regional Plan of Action following the adoption of the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment, which is Thailand’s initiative. He also encouraged AICHR to further promote the rights of persons with disabilities.
The Vice Minister further commended AICHR’s efforts to strengthen the human rights dimension of combating transnational crime, particularly online scams, which is a national priority for Thailand. He also reiterated Thailand’s commitment to supporting a stronger and more effective AICHR.
