Thai Government Welcomed Robust Foreign Tourism Arrivals, Generating Over 700 Billion Baht

The Thai government expressed strong satisfaction with the country’s resilient tourism sector, which generated over 700 billion baht in cumulative revenue. Ms. Ploytalay Laksameesangjan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed on June 11, 2026, that from May 1 to 31, 2026, Thailand welcomed 2.35 million international tourists, marking a 3.54% growth year-on-year. This influx generated 108 billion baht in tourism revenue, an increase of 12.77% compared to the same period last year. The top five nationalities visiting Thailand during May were Malaysia, China, India, Russia, and Singapore, respectively.

For the cumulative period from January 1 to June 7, 2026, Thailand recorded 14,515,978 international arrivals, generating an accumulated revenue of 701,358 million baht. During this period, the top five source markets consisted of China with 2,386,714 visitors, Malaysia with 1,839,151 visitors, India with 1,103,945 visitors, Russia with 964,670 visitors, and South Korea with 552,621 visitors. Looking ahead, the government projected a slight increase in arrivals as several key markets returned to their regular travel patterns.

Despite these positive numbers, Ms. Ploytalay noted that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East significantly drove up aviation and transport costs, altering global travel behaviors toward shorter-distance trips and tighter budget controls. In response to these shifts, the government remained committed to driving the tourism industry by promoting regional, short-haul travel. This strategy aims to restructure Thai tourism to align with global trends focusing on sustainability, energy efficiency, and value-driven experiences.
