Princess Sirivannavari Receives Italy’s Highest Order of Merit
Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya received the Knight Grand Cross, the highest class of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, from His Excellency Mr. Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic, at the Presidential Palace in Rome on 20 October 2026.
The honor recognizes Her Royal Highness’s outstanding role in promoting and showcasing Italian art, culture, and creativity on the international stage, particularly in fashion, design, and craftsmanship, which form an essential part of Italy’s national identity. Her Royal Highness has demonstrated exceptional talent and a far-reaching vision in incorporating Italian knowledge, materials, traditional techniques, and the expertise of Italian artisans into her own creations.
The distinction also carries historical significance for Thailand. In 1960, the then President of the Italian Republic, Mr. Giovanni Gronchi, requested royal permission to confer the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic upon His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, the late King of Thailand.
