The Ministry of Industry, through the Department of Primary Industries and Mines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation via the National Science and Technology Development Agency, has launched the “Mining 4.0 Index,” Thailand’s first digital readiness assessment tool specifically designed for the mining industry. The initiative aims to support the sector’s transition toward modern industrial practices and to enhance the country’s long-term competitiveness.
The Mining 4.0 Index is an industry-specific adaptation of the Thailand i4.0 Index, tailored to mining operations, crushing plants, and mineral processing facilities. It assesses digital infrastructure, automation and data-driven technologies, operational safety and efficiency, environmental and community impact management, as well as workforce skill development, providing a comprehensive
framework for advancing the mining sector into the digital era.
As part of this public-sector collaboration, six model mining operators were selected to undergo in-depth analysis and technology roadmap development aligned with their actual production conditions. The outcomes of this initiative will serve as a foundation for future government support measures and investment incentives, helping drive Thailand’s mining industry toward a more efficient, responsible, and sustainable Mining 4.0 ecosystem.
