Commerce Ministry Launches Fast Track Plus+ to Accelerate Intellectual Property Registration

The Department of Intellectual Property under the Mommerce Ministry Launches Fast Track Plus+ to Accelerate Intellectual Property Registrationinistry of Commerce has expanded its Fast Track Plus+ service by introducing three new categories, aiming to significantly speed up the registration of intellectual property rights starting in 2026. The initiative is designed to support targeted industries, align with modern trade trends, and enhance the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs.

According to Auramon Supthaweethum, (อรมน ทรัพย์ทวีธรรม) Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, the expanded Fast Track Plus+ service has been in effect since January 1, 2025. The new categories include trademarks for e-commerce businesses, invention patents and petty patents for digital innovation, and design patents for automotive parts. The initiative is intended to enable businesses to protect their intellectual property more efficiently and bring innovations to market more quickly.

Under the first category, Fast Track trademark registration is now available for e-commerce operators who need to use trademarks urgently for business operations. Applicants must provide justification for expedited use, conduct trademark similarity checks using designated databases, and submit applications covering no more than one class and ten product items. International trademark applications under the Madrid Protocol are excluded. Initial examination results will be issued within four months of submission.

The second category focuses on Fast Track services for invention patents and petty patents in digital innovation fields. Covered areas include artificial intelligence, smart devices, communications technology, digital services, and semiconductor innovation. Final examination results will be delivered within 12 months for invention patents and six months for petty patents. The initiative aims to encourage the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, big data analytics, and cloud computing to improve production processes and digital services.

The third category offers Fast Track registration for design patents in the automotive parts sector, with final results provided within three months of participation. As the automotive industry is considered both a core and future industry of Thailand, timely intellectual property protection is essential to maintain competitive advantages and support research, development, and investment.

Previously, the department provided Fast Track services in several areas, including trademarks required for submission to other government agencies and patents related to medical innovation, future food, and environmentally friendly technologies. These services have significantly reduced registration timelines across multiple sectors.

The Department of Intellectual Property has invited entrepreneurs, researchers, inventors, and designers to take advantage of the Fast Track Plus+ service and existing Fast Track programs. Further details are available on the department’s official website or via the intellectual property hotline.
