Taxis are one such public transport option for residents of Bangkok. However, it must be admitted that many have encountered problems such as taxi drivers refusing passengers or solitary journeys that may lack safety.
Presently, technology is addressing these issues through mobile applications that allow the public to travel by public transportation, enjoy fair services, reasonable prices, and enhanced safety. The Department of Land Transport is advising the public to choose taxi and car hire services via legally compliant mobile applications.
The "Department of Land Transport" has certified six ride-hailing service applications currently, which are:
When using a car hire service through a legally certified application, both the service-providing vehicle and the driver must be properly licensed and registered, covering both taxis and public cars.
Taxis can be identified by their yellow license plates and carry passenger insurance. The drivers must possess a valid public vehicle driving license that has undergone a criminal record check by the National Police Office. The driver's information, ID card, and vehicle registration data must be correct and matching.
Private cars that offer hire services must register to change their type to "hire car" and display recognizable stickers or symbols on both the front and rear of the vehicle. The drivers must have a public vehicle driving license, pass a criminal record check from the National Police Office, and the car must have insurance that covers property and passengers, similar to regular taxis.
If customers encounter any problems when using taxi or car hire services via the applications, they can lodge a complaint through the hotline "1584", the Passenger Protection Center, and the Department of Land Transport's complaint service, available 24 hours a day.
