Thailand’s Government Media Agency Wins International Engineering Award from Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union

Thailand’s Public Relations Department (PRD), the government agency that oversees NBT, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand, has received the ABU Developing Broadcasters’ Excellence Award 2026 from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the region’s leading association of radio and television broadcasters.

The award was presented on 30 October 2026 at the ABU Technical Committee Meeting, part of the union’s 63rd General Assembly, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

It recognizes “Modernizing NBT Broadcast Monitoring: Automatic System with Real-Time Alerts,” designed and developed by Yutthaphong Phanthachai, a senior electrical engineer at the Public Relations Office 1 in Khon Kaen Province. Rahat Udomvet, a senior electrical engineer, accepted the award on his behalf.

■ What does the system do?

• Monitors all 168 digital TV transmitter stations nationwide from one central point

• Tracks transmitter power, main electricity supply, and backup generator status

• Sends real-time alerts to officers’ mobile phones when a fault is detected, such as a power failure

• Shows live broadcasts from all 168 stations on a single screen

The system was built in-house, from programming and testing to real-world deployment, using Python with SNMP and Modbus communication technologies.

This achievement reflects the skill and creativity of the PRD’s personnel in applying modern technology to real operational challenges, raising the standard of Thailand’s broadcast engineering and bringing pride to Thailand on the international stage.
