Thailand and Myanmar Discuss Border Security and Economic Connectivity

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow held discussions with U Tin Maung Swe, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, during the latter’s visit to Thailand to attend the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers with the Foreign Minister of Myanmar.

Both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding relations between Thailand and Myanmar as neighboring countries. They discussed cooperation on border security and environmental issues, particularly river pollution, as well as measures to facilitate cross-border trade and strengthen economic connectivity between the two countries.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on Myanmar’s engagement with ASEAN, including developments related to the country’s peace process and national reconciliation efforts.
