Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Festival Lights Up Mekong River

Nakhon Phanom province is hosting its annual Illuminated Boat Procession Festival from October 16 to 27, 2026, featuring drone light shows, illuminated boats, and cultural performances along the Mekong River.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting the event through its Amazing Mekong campaign to showcase local traditions and attract visitors to the province.

A major attraction is an 800-drone light show at the Phaya Si Satta Nakharat Plaza at 7:30 p.m. on October 24 and 25. A special performance featuring pyrotechnic drones and fireworks will follow at 11 p.m. on October 26, coinciding with the end of Buddhist Lent. The displays will portray Naga legends, Buddhist heritage, and the traditional lifestyles of Mekong River communities.

Visitors can also admire the Satta Nakhara illuminated boat, measuring 40 meters long and 10 meters high, with decorations inspired by local religious landmarks and cultural traditions. The boat will be on display opposite the TAT Nakhon Phanom Office from October 22 to 27, between 4 and 10 p.m. daily. Other activities include traditional music, handicraft workshops, and an illuminated boat competition featuring all 12 districts on October 26.
