Thailand is enhancing its telemedicine platform, Social Telecare, by integrating social welfare services with remote medical care. This system is currently operational in 118 hospitals nationwide, focusing on three vulnerable patient groups: psychiatric and substance abuse patients, diabetics, and cancer patients.
In 2024, user engagement surged more than 14-fold compared to 2022, with 5,325 patients submitting health data, 432 social workers actively using the system, and 22 multidisciplinary team members involved. The platform improves accuracy in social assessments, diagnoses, and follow-ups, reducing human error and efficiently linking data across agencies.
The platform features 37 social diagnostic tools and 40 social welfare clinic services, including rehabilitation, social skills training, and family counseling. It connects to hospital databases via API and HOSxP software, while AI analyzes patients’ social issues in real time.
Built on a secure Cloud Data Lake and metadata system, the platform enables precise social work and supports expansion across all health regions. It also seamlessly integrates with the Ministry of Public Health’s digital health services.
The success of Social Telecare marks a pivotal shift in developing social work within an integrated healthcare system, reducing inequality and supporting sustainable primary care services.
