Tourism in Thailand is thriving! Tourism expenditure data from both Thai and international tourists has become a key indicator of the tourism sector's recovery and growth, especially over 2023-2024. Let’s take a closer look at the spending trends for each quarter.
In 2023, tourism spending rose each quarter, starting with 532,665.87 million baht in Q1 and peaking at 686,450.84 million baht in Q4. In 2024 (projected data), Q1 spending remained high at 616,132.77 million baht, with a slight decrease in Q2 but still exceeding the same quarter in 2023.
International tourists played a vital role, with 8.13 million arrivals in Thailand in Q2 of 2024, reflecting a 22.21% spending increase from the previous year despite the low season. Meanwhile, domestic travel remained strong, with over 51.01 million domestic trips and a 16.85% year-over-year spending increase.
Clearly, tourism remains a powerful driver of Thailand’s economy. Increased travel and spending by both Thai and international tourists signal a positive economic outlook and the strength of Thailand's tourism industry.
