Government Establishes “Single Command” Center, Mobilizing Six Ministries to Tackle Floods in Nan

Deputy Prime Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat, in his capacity as Incident Commander, visited the N.1 water monitoring station in Mueang Nan District, Nan Province, to closely monitor the flood situation. A Single Command Center has been established to operate around the clock, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response.

Six ministries have been mobilized to provide assistance ranging from the evacuation and protection of vulnerable groups to support for farmers and workers, as well as the repair of homes and livelihood equipment once floodwaters recede.

📌 Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation

* Enhance the Cell Broadcast emergency alert system to ensure the public receives timely information;

* GISTDA is using satellite data to monitor the flood situation and coordinating information with the Office of the National Water Resources, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Department of Water Resources. The “Check Nam” application is also being used to monitor the situation, identify risk areas, and issue alerts;

* Pre-position personnel, boats, and equipment in high-risk areas, while preparing KA-32 helicopters for evacuation and relief supply missions in hard-to-reach areas. Temporary shelters are also being prepared with food, drinking water, and public health services.

📌 Ministry of Social Development and Human Security

* Expedite the evacuation of vulnerable groups from high-risk areas and prepare shelters and essential supplies for evacuees;

* Update information on vulnerable groups in affected areas to identify those requiring assistance and prioritize urgent cases.

📌 Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives

* Deploy machinery and water pumps to flood-affected areas to speed up drainage;

* Prepare to relocate livestock and essential belongings from high-risk areas, while stockpiling animal feed, medicines, and medical supplies to provide immediate support to residents and farmers as conditions change.

📌 Ministry of Labour

* Seek cooperation from employers to allow employees who are unable to travel to work due to flooding to stay home without having the absence counted as leave;

* Affected employers and business operators may apply for low-interest loans through the Safety, Occupational Health and Working Environment Fund to repair and restore their workplaces.

📌 Ministry of Education

* School administrators may temporarily suspend classes as appropriate to local conditions. Schools are also being prepared for use as temporary shelters or public assistance centers if necessary;

* Vocational repair teams will be deployed once the flood situation eases to inspect and repair damaged homes.” Vocational community kitchens” will also provide food and drinking water during the recovery period.

📌 Ministry of Interior

* Expedite warnings to people in high-risk areas, urging them to follow official instructions and evacuate to designated safe areas when advised;

* Pre-position personnel, equipment, and recovery measures so that damage assessments, remedies, home repairs, and livelihood recovery can begin immediately once conditions improve.
